A bit of my musical history, presented in the third
person to sound more objective. Paul Beck is a folk singer and songwriter who has played for his own amusement and with a variety of groups over many years. He plays guitar, mandolin, old-time banjo, and cittern. His music ranges from traditional ballads and tunes to bluegrass, contemporary folk music, and his own songs (which may be either contemporary or faux traditional). Pete Seeger once said of him "Who?" and Utah Philips once declined to get into a pun contest with him, presumably knowing better. Ellen Schmidt says "Paul is a consummate folkie, favoring traditional music along with his own fine compositions". Back to the first person: I created this web site to coincide with an increase in my musical activities, which happen in turn to follow my early retirement from a high tech career. This has given me the opportunity to finally take the time to record songs which I've been meaning to capture for many years (note that one song in my upcoming CD was recorded in 1980!). I am currently enjoying playing open mikes in the Boston exurbs; check the schedule for any upcoming features.
